Cancelada Village Cancelada is on the mountain side of the main A7 coastal road, only a few minutes drive between San Pedro and Estepona towns and can easily be reached by footbridge from Villacana, Park Beach and Albayalde beachside resorts. Although it has much changed over the years from a rural community, with several new residential developments, apartments, townhouses and commercial centres, the village has managed to maintain its quaintness.

This sleepy village comes alive into a vibrant pueblo for celebrations of birthdays, weddings and fiestas either side of the traditional Spanish siesta period. There is a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants to entice you away for a pleasant change to the beachside choices.

GENERAL TOUR OF THE INNER VILLAGE If approaching by road from Puerto Banus, you turn off at the Cancelada “cambio de sentido” and take the 3rd exit off the roundabout taking you past what was once known as Mundo Studios. A right turn at the end of the road leads you towards the heart of the village. On the left, you will pass by “La Posada” A restaurant which offers good quality food, reasonably priced and very popular. Here you will find attentive service and pleasant surroundings.

El Carnicero Restaurant: Just a little further along the street you will find “El Carnicero”, locally known as the "Butcher". With its open fireplace in the winter, it offers a good alternative with high quality meat and steaks. Although the price list is a little more costly than “La Posada”, the quality is first-rate and they offer an affordable 3-course set menu.
Turning the corner to the right, we meet the main parade of restaurants and bars, offering a selection of excellent and inexpensive “Menu del Dia”, which is “Menu of the Day” for those of you who have yet to embark on learning Spanish. This usually consists of a 3 course lunch, complete with refreshments, wine, beer or otherwise for only under 10.00 euros.
La Parcela Restaurant: First there is a very inexpensive and pleasant Pizza & Pasta Restaurant. Following from that we have “La Parcela”, offering fine food and good value. It is quite often necessary to make a reservation during the peak summer months. Beyond La Parcela, you have the local stationers/ newsagents, a Patisserie and a strip of bars, tapas bodegas and restaurants, a bank and the local Town Hall.

GENERAL:.Further along, the road takes guides you to the left and round the back, to the higher level. If you park there, you will have the opportunity to explore the tiny inner area of Cancelada Village. From the mini-roundabout, as you can enter the street that leads you back to the main strip you will find the local greengrocer offering just about anything from fruit, vegetables to “soy sauce”.
Beyond this, on your left, you have the local lottery shop completewith a selection of DVD’s for hire. Next door is the local butchers with just enough room to squeeze 3 people wishing to make their weekly meat order. Afterwards we have the “Santa Maria”, a family owned tapas bar/ restaurant offering Spanish cuisine. The presentation and class of food is excellent here. Presently, only open from 19.00 hours in the evenings.
Casa Miguel REstaurant: Further down the street you have the local hairdresser/ beauty salon for ladies. Just beyond, on the bottom right corner of the street is the “Casa Miguel” restaurant, barely noticeable when it is closed during the day, but is a very popular venue at night. A reservation is always necessary, even in the winter, when the outer seating in the piazza is no longer possible. |
Ahead and to the right, you have the local doctor’s surgery, the church and just down the steps is the pharmacy.
You have just done a full circle of the original, inner village, finding yourself back on the main strip with its choice of bars and restaurants.

TOUR OF OTHER PARTS OF CANCELADA If you were to go back to the main street and proceed ahead, you have “Lola’s” on your left offering snacks, sandwiches, burgers and probably the best coffee in Cancelada. Lola’s attracts a noisy crowd of Spanish workeker very early in the morning, grabbing a quick coffee or breakfast before the day begins.
Next door to Lola’s, we have the local workshop which specializes in clothing alterations and curtain curtain making. Beyond this is the “Chinese Shop” Don Euritos, offering everything from costume jewellery to tools, toiletries, household items. There is a small but friendly Pizzeria next door and, if you bare round to the right at the roundabout, you will find the village “Abogados” (Lawyers) and take away roast chicken outlet.
Tucked away, just around to the right, is the local Ferreteria (Hardware Store), once again selling everything imagineable.
Going back to the beginning of the tour, if you were to head straight up from “El Carnicero”, on the right you will see a discreetly situated restaurant called “Centurio”. This is a small establishment but offers a warm welcome and fine Spanish food. They also have four very nicely renovated rooms above, which in high season, rent for under 70 euros per night.
