Manilva
This traditional small town is built on a hilltop overlooking the coast.  Adjacent to Estepona, it is the most westerly coastal village in the province of Málaga bordering Cádiz.  Was part of the  municipality of Casares until 1797.

DETAILS

Remains of a Bronze Age settlement have been discovered at Cerro del Castillo, but the Roman occupation is of greater importance, as shown by the Roman villa in the San Luis de Sabanillas district

The monument of greatest interest is La Duquesa Castle, located in nearby Sabanillas, built in the times of Carlos III to safeguard the coast from pirates, who ravaged the coastal area for centuries.  The church of Santa Ana, started in 1776, is also worth visiting.

FAIRS & FESTIVITIES
The local festivities take place at the end of July and beginning of September in Manilva itself.

CUISINE
In the cullinary sense, being a fishing area, the local restaurants offer various sea bream, red mullet, grouper although the village's most typical dish is baked sardines.
